House of Dreadlocks is a salon and beauty brand. Their customers already live on Instagram. The website at houseofdreadlocks.com has to feel like the same brand in a browser — bold, visual — and still let a local visitor find services and a way to book or message without hunting.
Visual first, not corporate navy
A generic “spa template” would have been the wrong brand. We used strong imagery and a layout that can hold galleries. Beauty sites fail when they crop work into tiny thumbnails; they also fail when 12MB of unoptimised photos freeze a phone. We kept the look loud and the files disciplined.
Mobile-first because that is the channel
Salon research happens on a phone between other apps. Tap targets, sticky contact, and readable service names matter more than a desktop parallax story. Booking-friendly does not always mean a full SaaS widget on day one — sometimes WhatsApp or a simple form converts better until volume justifies Calendly or a salon system.
What we did not do
We did not autoplay video behind text. We did not hide the brand name in a decorative font nobody can read in a SERP screenshot. Accessibility of contrast still applies when the aesthetic is bold.
Outcome
A live brand site that can sit next to Instagram as the “official” URL, with galleries and a conversion path for local customers.
